KHAITE
Catherine Holstein founded Khaite in New York in 2016, and the label marked its tenth anniversary this September. The name is her nickname Cate crossed with the Greek khaítē, meaning long, flowing hair. The clothes pair heavy with fine and hard with soft: chunky cashmere and merino knits worn off the shoulder, high-waisted and wide-leg denim, leather jackets and trench coats, corseted and bias-cut dresses, sharp blazers and mid-heel boots. Recent collections have leaned darker and more theatrical, military-cut tailoring, gothic romance, black and oxblood against cream.
